This special tribute commemorates 40 years since the hit sitcom first aired and explores its lasting cultural impact. The show will air on ABC from 10:01pm to 11pm EST on Tuesday, November 11th. It will also be available to stream on Disney+ and Hulu the next day.
“The Golden Girls: 40 Years of Laughter and Friendship” delves into the genesis of the show, from its early development and pilot episode to its status as a television classic. Celebrating an era in which Hollywood championed youth, the series was groundbreaking by starring four older women: Bea Arthur, Betty White, Lou McClanahan, and Estelle Getty. Through her sharp, free-spirited comedy, she challenged stereotypes about aging, tackled taboo topics, and redefined how older women are portrayed on television. This special features new interviews with series creator Susan Harris, Emmy Award-winning executive producer Tony Thomas, and director Terry Hughes. The series has been a remarkable success on streaming, with over 1 billion hours watched worldwide on Disney+ and Hulu. All of Season 7 is available to stream through the Hulu bundle on Hulu and Disney+.
