This is a love letter to the Great British Christmas carol, from “No Rose” to “The Boar’s Head.”

Did you know that Christmas songs aren’t the only ones that are Carol? True Carol is a unique product of the Catholic medieval Middle Ages in all its simple splendor. However, our ancestors did not limit Carol to Christmas. They wrote carols in every season of the year that covers our entire redeeming tales, not to mention secular topics at times.

This episode explores the origins of British Carols, their cultural meanings, and how they were suppressed by the Puritans and revived in the present day. And of course, you’ll hear a lot of great music, from historically informed performances to modern arrangements!
