Father Jean-Pierre Torel’s definitive scholarly biography of St. Thomas Aquinas recently published its third edition, and translator Matthew Minerd returns to the Catholic Culture Podcast to discuss what we can learn from Father Torel about the life of St. Thomas and the context in which such works are told.

This episode delves deeply into Thomas’s vocation in many ways: his Benedictine education and eventual decision to join the Dominican Order, his intellectual training as a disciple of St. Albert the Great and ultimately earning a Bachelor of Arts degree, and his teaching, writing, debate, and preaching assignments as a sacerdotal master at the University of Paris and elsewhere. By examining these, we can learn a lot about Thomas’s spirituality, his methods of working, and the intellectual climate of his time.
