“When we’re preparing to release new music, we have to decide what we want to be and what we don’t,” Sylvan Esso said in a statement. “To that end, we decided to remove music from Spotify as Sylvan Esso is on our own label for the first time. The solution is not perfect, but in addition to all the obvious flaws, we cannot continue to entrust our life’s work in a store that directly funds the war machine.
Sylvan Esso joins acts such as Massive Attack, Xiu Xiu, Deerhoof, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Godspeed You and more! Black Emperor, Hotline TNT, Woolife, and a young widow, Deradrian left Spotify after investing in Daniel EK’s arms contractor Helsing. In related news, Spotify announced that EK will step down as CEO and become an executive chair. He will be replaced by Chief Product and Technology Officer Gustav Söderström, who serves as CO-CEOs, and Chief Business Officer Alex Norström.
