Loneliness is serious public health problem. Mental Health Foundation It makes people more difficult to connect, leading to fear of social situations, and ultimately makes it even more difficult to escape negative thoughts. A sustained lack of social connection can shorten lifespans as badly as smoking 15 per day.
Anxiety and depression have increased significantly over the past few years. The Covid-19 pandemic, the first year of global anxiety and depression rates 25% jumpedaccording to the WHO. However, this peak is only part of the long-term trend. Researchers found that over the 2000s, anxiety and depression rose equally in all age groups, spiked in 2011 for people aged 16-24.

Men seem to be disproportionately influenced, and psychologists attribute this to gender norms that limit the emotional communication and relationships of men presenting them.
