Nashville-based singer and songwriter Sam Varga dropped his latest single, “Queen of the Ash” on August 22nd. This is a guitar-driven song whose lyrics capture the intoxicating confusion of self-destruction. With keen storytelling and moody edge, the track tells the story of a woman who sparked her world as an act of revenge, leading her anger into unforgettable cathartic language.
The song was joined together overnight in Varga’s apartment with musicians Caroline Romano and Spencer Jordan. The track was soon brought into the studio with producer Dan Swank (All Time Low, Knox, Taylor Acorn).
“I had the title for a while and knew exactly who I wanted to write with,” Varga said. “Caroline [Romano] He’s a great artist and Spencer [Jordan] He’s been my best friend since I arrived in town. He is a special source of great music coming out of Nashville and LA. ”
Varga’s new single continues the musical momentum with breakout tracks such as “Minute Man” and “Long Way Back,” following their 2024 debut album “Shadow Work.” In “Queen of Ashes,” Balga sharpens the edges of his alt countries, holding onto the emotional vulnerability and restless urgency that defines his sound.
Originally from Louisville, Kentucky, Varga cuts teeth in a DIY emo scene, plays basement shows, and writes songs that are soaked in punk energy and late-night honesty. That raw foundation clashes with his Nashville songwriting, creating something unique. Emo Grit meets Southern Seoul. His music is addictive, keen, self-aware, and has the perfect balance of rough storytelling and melodic hooks.
Whether he’s digging into existential horror or providing a flash of hope with a hard-working flash of hope, Varga’s songs are made to match long drives, party post spirals, and all finally clicking, those fleeting moments.
