Mugen Gaming has released its first official English material Sword World RPGannounced plans for a full kick starter next year. Now available as a free downloadable PDF Sword World RPG QuickStart is an early version/early release of the 2.5 system, and includes everything new players need to start their adventures. A summary of the core rules, solo adventures, an instant-play one-shot campaign, and pre-generated characters.
First released in 1989, Sword World RPG was created by group SNE and became one of Japan’s most influential tabletop role-playing games. Built on a 2D6 system and known for its focus on teamwork, structured play and accessible storytelling, Sword World has been popular for over 35 years and is an inspirational novel, real play series, anime adaptation and video game. Over 10 million sword world books have been sold so far, including rule books, replay books and ty-in novels. “This free quickstart is the perfect entry point for English-speaking players who have always been interested in Sword World but have no way to experience it,” said AI, one of the founders of Mugen Gaming. “For decades, Japanese fans have been building incredible stories with these rules. Now we can join them.”
Release of Sword World RPG QuickStart shows the first steps towards the game’s full English debut. This will begin via crowdfunding early next year.
“We wanted our fans to do more than just an announcement. We wanted them to play,” said Shawn, another founder of Mugen Gaming. “The Quick Start offers a real taste of what makes Sword World special. If players try it, they’ll soon see Japan’s most played RPGs for over 30 years.”
Details about upcoming crowdfunding campaigns, release timelines, and additional game support will be shared in the coming months. Fans can also join the Sword World Discord Community for updates and share their experiences with Sword World RPG QuickStart.
