park is one of my favorite games thanks to its fun and themed gameplay that pays homage to America’s great natural beauty. When I heard that Keymaster was going to release a roll and write, I was a little, well, skeptical. I’ve never been a big fan of roll and write for a variety of reasons, but I didn’t know what to think about games that incorporated gameplay. park And it shrinks to fit a fairly limited roll-and-write genre. Even as I quickly fell in love with the game’s new art and graphic design, I wasn’t completely sold on it. But once it was on the table and the dice started rolling, we knew we had something special.

When you think the key master has reached its peak park They release even more gorgeous games in even smaller packages. Maybe this is just my graphic design brain at work, but I’ve never played a game that looked this good, was this satisfying, and was so visually perfect that I don’t have enough adjectives. I don’t know. What color? pop. What’s the font? Retro and fun. For a game this small, there’s really a lot of great detail packed in to get the perfect feel. Even if it is included in the package, pencil It captures the mid-century Americana aesthetic that the game is going for.
How about playing?
The game itself is very simple. like park, Each player hikes through one of six national parks, visiting wildlife, landmarks, and other points of interest. Like most roll and write games, the premise of this game is to use the results of rolling the dice to get different results. Each round a die is rolled and placed in the pool. Each player then selects a die on their turn and marks the selected die in the rulebook. Each has different effects. Sun gets bonuses, you get the first hiker token (as you can imagine, going first is very powerful), your water bottle gets filled with water, you get points at each trailhead, Rand Marks will be added to your journal.Using the pencil you can write in your diary again to get bonuses, and each wild animal has its own unique ability.
The game progresses in one day phases, with three days making up the game. The final score is determined based on how full your water bottle is, every line you “write” in your diary, every wildlife you spot, and each park’s unique bonuses.
The verdict?
You’ll never catch me saying anything bad about anything. park game. The core gameplay is so fun and themed that I can’t help but check all my boxes. But then trail I thought the format could not be compressed any further, but Park: Roll & Hike They actually did. While it takes quite a while before you can enjoy roll-and-write, some of the problems with the genre still persist in terms of limited player connectivity and the inherent randomness of it all. It remains. But that is alleviated by the amount of options available and how fast and fun the experience is. It’s also portable and built from the ground up to be something you can take and play with while hiking or camping, which we hope to test this fall. That’s reflected in incredibly well-made components combined with top-notch graphics. A design you’ve seen in games. with cap Andrea Dumata‘s colorful and fun art is a great addition to the roll-and-write canon, and it won’t be leaving my hiking pack anytime soon.
can be picked up Park: Roll & Hike Keymaster directly from the game Or buy it at FLGS for an MSRP of $24.99.
