Iconic found footage horror series paranormal phenomenon is officially back – and this time Conjuring Mastermind James Wan helps pilot the ship.
The series, which started in 2007 as Oren Peli’s groundbreaking low-budget hit (costing just $15,000 to make), has grown into a global phenomenon and spawned six sequels. paranormal activity 2 (2010), 3 (2011), 4 (2012), the marked ones (2014), ghost dimension (2015), and a Paramount+ exclusive Kin’s next (2021).
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the new film is being developed as a high-priority theatrical release through a partnership between Paramount Pictures and the newly merged Blumhouse Atomic Monster (horror giant co-owned by Jason Blum and James Wan). Original creator Oren Peli will return as a producer through his Solana Films banner.
James Wan expressed his excitement in a statement.
“I’ve always been a big fan paranormal phenomenon Ever since the great first film, with its creeping slow burn and subtle ability to make the invisible terrifying. I look forward to further expanding on that tradition and helping shape the next evolution of this terrifying found footage series. ”
Jason Blum added:
“Joining James in the revival of this exciting series that started it all for Blumhouse is exactly what we dreamed of when we merged with Atomic Monster. I look forward to actively engaging with him to introduce this new chapter. Thankfully, we were able to spend a little more than the $15,000 we spent on its predecessor. But one thing remains the same: Don’t watch it alone.”
Different from 2021 Kin’s next” has moved directly to streaming distribution, but this new chapter is positioned as a complete theatrical event. Plot details, possible connections to existing timelines, and whether it will serve as a reboot or sequel are still being kept secret.
Steven Schneider, Michael Clear, and Judson Scott serve as executive producers. The director and release date have not yet been announced.
