Language Nation – consisting of Brooklyn-based trio Ian Richard Devanney, Aidan Noel and Alex Mackay – Sub-pop. In addition to the news, they shared a video of their bright new single “The incompetent Apollo”. Check out the clip from Director John Mackay below and scroll down on the band’s upcoming tour dates.
Devanai discussed the new songs and videos, and said in a press release.
Work is a rest from pain. Whether it’s a pay job or something you pour yourself, by having a direction of movement and finding a flow state, it can move the focus from the weight of the heart. After a loss in life, in a moment of despair, we resolve it over and over again and dive into the work with the best we can. However, the artistic process is also prone to when con man syndrome develops ugly heads – when my inner monologue spirals: “This is the best coping mechanism I have at my disposal and I am not even entitled to do it.”
The song comes with a killer music video by his friend and brother John Mackay. It was a homage to creative pursuits, and in a way it became a representation of the sense of life in the city as an artist. This video feels like walking through an old warehouse in Brooklyn. It’s full of practice spaces and studios. Each room strives to express and understand their place in themselves and the world. No matter how strange the action may seem, or how much self-doubt and pain runs through the creator’s mind, what is beautiful is not a final product or concept of “success”, but effort and continuity. The power of creation belongs to us all. None approval is required.
Nation of Language’s latest album was in 2023 A strange apprentice. We’ll be revisiting our inspirational interview with the Nation of Language.
