Kurt Vile has announced his first new album in four years. it is called Philadelphia has been good to me.And as someone who has only become acquainted with this city through its constant outpouring of DIY talent, I have no choice but to agree. of (Please pay attention to my movements) The sequel is scheduled to be released by Verve on May 29th. To coincide with the news, Vile has released the hook-packed lead single “Chance to Bleed,” featuring guest vocals from Slint’s Ethan Buckler, Optic Sync’s Natalie Hoffman, and Greg Cartwright of the Oblivians. Check out below, along with Vile’s extensive tour schedule.
Regarding the track and its accompanying video, Vile said in a statement: “‘Chance to Bleed’ is a new, slightly more high-energy intensity. Recorded with my brother band, the Violators, in Athens, Georgia…and Memphis, Tennessee. , where I had town legend Greg Cartwright rip it with me (KV Reed GTR on the left, Greg Reed on the right!) I finished this jam with Rob in LA.” Schnapp was at the mixing board and by then it was flying, baby, this video is amazing. We’ve invited our friends from Memphis again, so keep an eye out for lots of other legendary guests (yo, Schooly D!), KV. ”
Philadelphia has been good to me. The record was largely self-produced with the help of Violators bassist Adam Langelotti, keyboardist Matthew Jugenheimer, drummer Kyle Spence, guitarist Jesse Trbovlich, and longtime Violators boardman Rob Schnapp. “This is my ‘bringing it all back to Philadelphia’ record,” Beil explained. “I’m treating this like my last record. I put everything into it. This is my best vocal record. This is my best electric guitar record. This is my most organic record, made within the comfort of my own zone.” I was waiting for that natural element to appear again in my recordings, like in the days of home recording, and I think I’ve finally captured it again, but with more fidelity. It’s not overly polished by any means, but it’s still pretty sparkly.
