Following the huge success of the first film, Lionsgate announced the following: house maid 2 will be held officially, and the title of the movie will be revealed.
Lionsgate has officially confirmed that a sequel to The Housemaid is in the works. The sequel, titled The Housemaid’s Secret, is expected to begin production in 2026. No official release date has been announced yet, but the timeline suggests the studio is likely aiming for a 2027 theatrical release.
Rebecca Sonnenshein, who first adapted Frieda McFadden’s best-selling novel into a film, is set to return as screenwriter. Director Paul Feig is also in talks to return, along with stars Sidney Sweeney and Michelle Morrone. At this stage, it is unclear whether Amanda Seyfried’s character will appear in the sequel.
Adam Fogelson, chairman of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, emphasized that the strong audience response to the original film was the main reason for moving forward with the sequel. “It’s clear from both the global box office and the outpouring on social media that audiences have responded strongly to the completely unique and truly theatrical experience of ‘The Housemaid’ and are eager to find out what happens next,” he said.
Director Fogelson added that the studio believed in McFadden’s story from the beginning and was keen to continue Milly’s journey on screen. He described The Housemaid’s Secret as another compelling entry in the author’s series that has already captivated readers around the world, and expressed his excitement to translate that energy into what promises to be an equally thrilling and crowd-pleasing cinematic experience.
