Fallout Season 2 Review: Drugs, Guns, and Deathclaws

is a very appropriate way to describe the world of fall outright? This week sees our heroes continue their journey in the aftermath of the previous episode’s failures, and inevitably end up being the first to encounter further failures. More of the Trio’s Vault’s sinister intentions are revealed, and major events before the war reveal something previously unconfirmed.

A lot happened, so let’s get into this week’s episode. fall outthe title is “Devil in the Snow”.

oh hi

For those who have seen it, the title refers to the Deathclaws who witnessed Cooper slaughtering Chinese soldiers during the Battle of Alaska before dropping the bomb. At the end of the episode when Lucy and the Ghoul arrive on the New Vegas Strip, another creature shows up, but unfortunately we don’t find out what they do with it until the next episode.

Not only does it serve as the iconic character’s first live-action appearance; fall out The opening scene also confirms that these creatures were used before the bomb was dropped. We knew they were created before the bombs were dropped, but we didn’t know if they were actually deployed. This could be a way to finally confirm that the Enclave is involved in the creation of the Deathclaws in the future, and that the Enclave is involved in the current conspiracy. Fandom speculation has already raised the possibility that Hank is an Enclave spy due to the mind-control chips, but they can be more easily traced back to House, and we know that. fall out Never leave the Enclave dead. Dogmeat and cold fusion relics already played a role in Season 1, as they both come from the Enclave’s research labs.

Deathclaws are an interesting new wrinkle in the series’ lore, and I imagine they’ll be explored further, as Cooper’s pre-Ghoul plot has been steadily providing new new elements. fall out Tradition.

The deathclaw was also a great way to end the episode. These are the most terrifying monsters in the world fall out It was treated as a franchise here. Unless the theory that the Deathclaws are designed to ignore American soldiers from the war proves true and Cooper isn’t ignored, I fully expect Lucy and Ghoul to narrowly escape an encounter in the next episode, but either way, this was a great debut.

It’s a nice distraction from the state of the Strip, abandoned and seemingly irradiated, littered with rubble and broken Securibots. As expected, this is causing a lot of whining (let’s call it that) online. fall out community that wants Fallout: New Vegas I’m hoping to see a complete reenactment, or at least one of the more definitive endings.

There’s also a fair criticism of New Vegas’ setting that it doesn’t seem to feature many of the great factions that fans love in the game. At this point, we can assume that they seemingly went with a nihilistic version of a yes-man ending, where everyone gets kicked out but New Vegas doesn’t maintain its independence, or the House wins but can’t stay in power for long.

This left many factions as if they did not exist. The NCR may exist, but it currently has no influence in the Mojave. Nowac died and many khans were slaughtered. The Kings disappeared at the hands of Lucy. It is highly likely that the three families disappeared with the destruction of the Strip. The setting has an empty feel to it, and I can understand why some people have a bigger problem with this than others.

I’m not yet at the point where I really care about their absence or death. I’m even more excited because there are all sorts of questions and plans in place, and destroying the strip is one of them. This episode set up a number of plotlines that will likely intersect by the end of the season.

We end the episode with Maximus fleeing the Brotherhood with cold fusion in hand and Thaddeus by his side, but you have to imagine he’ll end up in Las Vegas soon enough to cross paths with Lucy. This was another great episode for him. Because our favorite playthrough rendition of the murderous hobo finally breaks with his adopted brother’s family.

I thought that he would try to cover up Xander’s death a little longer, or that Thaddeus would be discovered and he would have to run away, but there is a certain joy in Maximus’ decision to escape the difficulty of killing Xander by immediately killing Quintus. So far, his character arc has basically been a series of deaths he encounters while feeling increasingly guilty, and even though I feel awful for Maximus and his sad eyes, I’m incredibly enjoying it.

I’m also grateful for that fall out This final break in the Brotherhood would not be delayed, even if a civil war would occur locally sooner than I expected. Looking back, I realize that I probably had too high hopes for the Federation to show up this quickly when it would have been much easier to limit the fighting to the introduced factions, but I wasn’t disappointed in the slightest. The same result is achieved, the Brotherhood still falls apart, and so does the trust Maximus had in the faction.

The sad thing is that Quintus almost kicked Maximus off the shelf. The battle started completely unrelated to their conflict, so we don’t know how much of a difference it would have made, but perhaps if Quintus got Maximus and cold fusion under control, the battle would die down and everything would be brought back under control. He might even have been able to strengthen his position with at least one of the other elders now lying dead in the diner.

Instead, he abandoned it and was likely doomed to his own destruction due to his hatred of ghouls. If at least one of the invaluable airships, the Hindenburg, crashes on the ground, the West Coast Brotherhood will be weaker than ever.

In the same episode, there’s a compelling dichotomy between Maximus and the Brotherhood, who lose everything as a result of Maximus protecting a ghoul, and a drugged-up Lucy gleefully belittles the King’s ghouls she’s killing as “just ghouls” in Cooper’s presence.

In a previous recap, we touched on how Lucy’s heroism and morality are tested in the aftermath of her conflict with the Legion, and oh boy, we saw the beginning of that in this episode. The reveal that the ghoul gave her Buffout for two days was hysterical, and I would have liked this whole arc even more if I realized that the ghoul had been giving him the fixer the whole time and would only give it to Lucy when he was sufficiently irritated or felt threatened by Lucy’s elation or withdrawal.

lucy and ghoul
This time the ghoul is smarter

We’ll see how long it takes, but in the meantime, we’ve got Lucy in tune, happily falling into the vices of the Mojave. She is losing her heroism, and at the same time Maximus is rediscovering his heroism after years of losing it. This is a great story choice that leads to Maximus helping Lucy turn back into the person who inspired him. fallout first season.

I’m not looking forward to seeing what has become of Lucy since Max Sad Eyes last saw her.

Although the gnome faces a struggle with the Wasteland, his conflicts likely stem from the Old World. Like everyone else, I picked up the initials FEV from the middle manager he spoke to. Gnomes and Trio Vaults also serve to reveal what Bud Akins was up to, what Vault-Tec was up to, and what exactly Trio’s experiments with Vaults meant.

Whatever it is, Steph and Betty seem to realize that the experiment is over with Norm emptying Vault 31, but their interpretations of what this means for 32 and 33 differ greatly. Steph is aware of her superiority and is willing to use it to consolidate her power, but this may be more of an evil move that reveals her Canadian identity than a stupid or selfish move.

(only fall out I doubt it because I’m Canadian)

Since there’s general doubt about Hank and whether he’s really working in Vault-Tec’s interests, we can ask the same question about Steph, who might be on Hank’s side or working towards third-party goals we’re unaware of. All we know for sure is that Steph wants Hank’s stuff, she’s leaving Betty out in the cold, and with the incest party planners wasting all their resources and turning public sentiment against her, it’s unlikely that Betty will be able to maintain control for long.

The only question remaining about these vaults for now is whether the gnomes can arrive in time to stop them from falling into disaster. fall out Players typically discover the interior of the Vault after the apocalypse has ended and everyone has died or gone insane. We don’t even know if that’s Norm’s goal, or if he’s going to lead the supermanagers on a quest through the wilderness and maybe even find his father.

fall out has established a slew of dangling plot threads that all intersect in obvious and not-so-obvious ways that are destined to collide, whether this season or next.
