Over the past century, the left has focused on moral provocation, intentionally violating what it views as society’s hypocritical or puritanical moral norms in matters of religion, sexuality, and public decorum in general. Now the right is getting in on the fun, performatively violating speech norms that liberals hold sacrosanct. Sometimes that’s a good thing, but sometimes it violates not only leftist ideology but also traditional morality.
