James Van Der Beek, the star of the American television series “Dawson’s Creek,” died on Wednesday at the age of 48 after a battle with colorectal cancer.
A post on his Instagram page read: “Our beloved James David Van Der Beek passed away peacefully this morning. He met his final days with courage, faith and grace.”
Van der Beek, who was married with six children, announced her cancer diagnosis in 2024.
He was best known for playing the main character, Dawson, in the teen drama of the same name, which ran from 1998 to 2003 and revolved around a group of friends living in a small town in Massachusetts.
Although he also appeared in the films Varsity Blues and The Rules of Attraction, Van Der Beek never truly established himself in the film industry as he struggled to separate himself from the legacy of Dawson’s Creek.
