We are heading into arguably the most difficult election in American history. This election is largely due to the divisive and tribalistic nature of our nation’s politics. Indeed, the gulf between left and right, progressives and conservatives, Democrats and Republicans, has never felt wider or more dangerous.
Back in June, we put out a call for features to help us all think about this intense tribalism. starts from October 25thstart publishing and consider some questions such as:
- What do video games and classic television reveal about the pros and cons of tribalism?
- Is tribalism always a bad thing, or can it actually be used to discern and decipher truth in an increasingly ambiguous and complex culture?
- How is tribalism and human fallibility depicted in comics?
As we approach Election Day, and even after the votes are cast and counted, we must reflect on how political, cultural, and other forces are trying to separate us, and for what purpose. I would like to see it. And more importantly, we, especially Christians, can look past lies and manipulation, hold fast to goodness and truth, and seek to unite and heal rather than tear and divide. We would like to promote this.
