In the penultimate episode of season 2, fall out is starting to gather its main characters together on the New Vegas strip, with episodes that blow things up for some characters and bring others together in ways never known before. This is an episode packed with big reveals for fans of the game, and as always, there are more and more questions about what exactly these reveals mean.

Oh, there are some pretty intense episodes along the way. fall out.

I’m at a point where this show is getting so deep with its cuts that I’m wondering how much this will really resonate with people who aren’t already viewers. fall out fan. Cooper handing over cold fusion to the President of the United States is a big reveal, but what if we have no idea who the Enclave is or what this man’s role in it is? For someone who hasn’t seen Freeside in a game for that long, does the sight of him rooting for the New California Republic’s “return” mean that much?

Does Steph’s story here mean anything if we don’t know exactly what happened to America and Canada before the bombs were dropped? Is Chet’s reaction to revealing he’s Canadian just as funny?

Don’t get me wrong, I love it fall out It’s a very satisfying show for people who have known and loved the series for a while. There are a lot of concerns about video game adaptations and whether they respect and understand the lore of the series, but no one can say with certainty that this show doesn’t respect the source material. Every episode is filled with moments big and small that show they know their stuff.

You also don’t have to be the type of fan who digs deep into the lore of the United States’ annexation of Canada to understand the atrocities Steph experienced. The scenes of soldiers in power armor shooting people indiscriminately and a suicide bomber killing one vividly depict what she was going through even before she lost her mother.

Still, for someone like me, this episode pushed Steph up my list of favorite characters, and I’m actually rooting for her somewhat now. It’s a mark of a good TV show when a single episode can effectively change the conversation about a character such as: fall out I did it for Stephanie Harper. She went from a cartoonishly evil figure to a cursed survivor of American imperialism, and her scenes with Cooper in Las Vegas charmingly teased her journey, but now we want to know more about her.

(Also, if you give her an eyepatch in the future, Steph’s hotelier outfit will be straight out of a Kill Bill movie.)

Perhaps a better example of a scene that made a huge impact. fall out What may be less important to gamers, and perhaps to the average viewer, is the scene where Maximus marches across Freeside in his new power armor as the downtrodden population cheers for the “return” of the New Republic of California.

fall out Indeed, I have tried to make it clear that the NCR is a big problem and that its loss is a kind of tragedy for the wasteland. We’ve seen a glimpse of the stable society in Shady Sands and the multiple protagonists connected to it. The show wants us to see the NCR as at least close to being good, and I love when Lucy pokes fun at the fandom debate surrounding the NCR and the Legion, pointing out that one is a murderer, slaver, and torturer, and the other is “vaguely problematic.”

I have said this so far, but there is a limit to this. fall out There’s something we can do to convey how important the NCR is to the series, and how many fans like myself feel some way about Freeside’s reaction to them. The NCR has been kicked over and over again throughout this show, and there have been so many unfriendly debates about their treatment, so it would be great to see any signs of them coming out victorious, even if it’s relatively small.

Of course, you don’t need to know or care about the NCR at all to geek out over the climax in which your hero wanders freeside, gets knocked down, and a protracted brawl ensues between a power-armored Maximus and several deathclaws.

Unfortunately, it’s a battle that doesn’t go completely according to plan. Thaddeus is unable to help as he has lost an arm beforehand and his transformation is in full swing. To make matters worse, Maximus uses his tail to slip through the gates of Freeside, breaking them down and putting the inhabitants at risk from the Deathclaws. He ends up spending at least part of the final episode protecting people from them, which is a fitting way for Maximus to end his journey in the second season.

Meanwhile, the Ghoul manages to reach Lucky 38 and uses cold fusion to bring some version of Mr. House online, as everyone probably expected after last week’s episode. At the same time, Lucy finally gains the upper hand on her father and heads for the mainframe that powers the mind control chip.

This whole sequence, with the ghouls roaming Lucky 38, Lucy running away from her father, and Cooper handing over cold fusion to the President of the United States, was one of my favorites in the whole movie. fall out so far. It’s a thematically rich piece of storytelling, with a ghoul redoing a mistake he made years ago in another life, while Lucy tries to avoid making the same mistake.

It speaks to both Hank MacLean’s charisma and terrifying talent for manipulation that I spent most of this episode wondering if Lucy was falling for the nonsense he was selling. Lucy has been through a number of harrowing experiences since leaving Vault 33 to find her father, experiences that her brother also faces in his own way, and others may find Lucy’s solution to the ostensible violence and suffering appealing, even if only temporarily.

Lucy in a Fallout dress

How exactly does the brain controller work? fall out It gave fans something to chew on in the form of Diane Walsh’s rotting head. My first reaction was that she must be acting as a personality template for those implanted with the device, since their calm and meek personality matches what we saw from her.

Of course, you also have to wonder how gentle and meek she really is after the meeting she sets up between Cooper and the President. She could be an agent of the Enclave working toward this outcome from the beginning.

This is a moment that is even more effective for fans of the game as a show only. fall out Fans will know nothing about the President or the larger role of the Enclave before and after the war. I fully expect the show to delve into all of that going forward, but it’s interesting to think that while Cooper handing over cold fusion may seem like a good but questionable move to some, to others it’s clearly the worst thing he could have done.

I’m sure the people writing this show planned it with full awareness of the fans who don’t play the game, but I still wonder what kind of reaction they expect from moments like this.

And now the ghoul has put cold fusion back where it belongs, and we have some form of Robert House back. I can’t say this was a “good” move, since Robert House is a selfish megalomaniac intoxicated by dreams of resurrecting and controlling his beloved Las Vegas. But when his face appeared on the screen, I couldn’t help but cheer. Reintroducing house to modern New Vegas is a great move, and I hope this isn’t the kind of recording that will be over once its message is delivered.

You’ll understand right away, fallout The season 2 finale is approaching. My expectations are high and I would argue that if they stick with the landing here, this season could be even better than the first. There’s still a lot to resolve this season, and obviously other issues will be postponed to season 3, so we expect the finale to be a very busy one.

I’m expecting this fall out We’ll bring it to you again.
