Beadle and Grimm unleash in 2023 ring of chaos on top of the world. Pandemonium Warehouse’s first foray into board games, this competitive fantasy battle royale raised nearly $500,000 on Kickstarter and received positive reviews thanks to its ease of play and the game’s chaotic nature. Now in 2025, they discovered: growing fear, It’s a standalone expansion that can be played alongside the base game or as its own spooky and spooky title. Beadle & Grimm’s has a lot of horror pedigree (I don’t know if you’ve seen some of the movies that one of the owners was in, but they’re pretty scary), so I was very curious to see how this new title came about. Fortunately, Bill Lehall, who led the project, was happy to help.
It may seem obvious given your love for this genre, but why the horror/creepy version? ring of chaos Is it for your first major follow-up?
Horror seemed like a great fantasy-adjacent place to land an edition that we thought would be fully compatible with the original set. We were definitely thinking of doing something more radical – maybe we could have an alien with a ray gun? – but combining these elements with the first one… RoC It might feel a little strange. with the monsters growing fearyou can imagine yourself locked in battle with the fantasy heroes of the original game, but their look is clearly unique and a lot of fun to imagine and create.
Why standalone rather than just an extension?
This was a big discussion because we originally envisioned Rising Fear as an expansion. But in the end, it turns out that this new edition replaces about 80% of the game experience with new parties, new maps, and new art. By incorporating an action deck and making it a standalone game, even new players excited about the horror genre can play it right away.
As big board game players ourselves, we didn’t want to have to pull two games off the shelf and combine elements to play. If you just want to play growing fearhas everything you need. If you want to combine elements of the previous work with the new work, choose the all-in-one bundle, “Total Chaos” set!
Is this generally something we can expect to see more of in the future? ring of chaos expansion?
That’s a great question, but I can’t answer it yet. We need to make sure we give our audience what they want, so we’re really looking forward to getting this game into people’s hands and hearing their reactions. Whatever the fans want, that’s what the next expansion will be about.

Did the new setting open up any interesting design opportunities that didn’t exist in the base game?
I’ve never thought about special terrain spaces before, but the moment I saw Jack’s first path on the cemetery map, I thought to myself: “Something bad must happen to me if I walk around in a place like this…” growing fear includes two new terrain types (Cursed Ground and Unhallowed Ground) that add a great new twist to the game.
How did you design your new political party to stand out from the existing ones?
Our goal was to find artists we love who could create a completely different look than what existed in the original game. The first edition did not have the luxury of using a single artist; growing fear The amazing Lauren Addy did all the characters and box covers, and we’re so excited about the results. The art she creates has an old-school painterly style that we adore, and is very different from the style of the original game. What you get with one artist growing fear Unique and consistent style.
Tell us a little about Undead Onslapset, the new two-player head-to-head game mode. Where did it start?

This is just one example of what we love about attending gaming conventions. Gaming conventions are a great place to hear from your customers. When we first sold our original game at a convention, a young couple asked if we had a two-player option. They play most games as a couple and it was a shame they had to say no. we tried the original RoC Although we had 2 players, it felt a little empty, so we set the player count to 3-6 to ensure gamers got the experience we intended. But it bothered me, so when I started this project I started experimenting with new additional rules that would give someone a true chaotic “rugby match” feel for a full game. RoC, However, there are only two players. 6 ghouls later, I think we’ve arrived!
Are there any fun combination options you’ve discovered between the two editions?
growing fear Fully compatible with the original set. You can play new parties on old maps, pit new parties against old ones, or even change old maps to make them feel new again. We decided at the last minute to include the Cursed Ground and Unhallowed Ground tokens in the new game so they can be placed on the Original Edition map. We are really happy with the result. We’ve added some dangerous terrain to Tentacle Island to make it feel like an entirely new map.
The party has special powers like the Eye Harvester. You can play almost any card at the cost of summon points. Even if you’re running an original edition party, everyone else will be forced to play a little differently. These are balanced, but we had to consider new strategies and that was important to us. Overall, it’s really fun to put the two editions together.
Newly added favorites ring of chaos?
The haunted house map is wonderfully messy. RoC is proud to be a “Take that!” It’s a board game genre, and its Cursed Ground spaces on the map are a fun and satisfying way to draw your opponents into a whole new world of trouble. Personally, I also love the “Vengeful Spirits” alternative rule, which leaves a dangerous trail of eliminated players on the board, making the endgame a particularly spooky challenge.

You can still pledge after the deadline Ring of Chaos: Rising Fear Look out for the full release in 2026.
