American Football Announce Covers Album With Ethel Cain, Manchester Orchestra, Iron & Wine, and More

American Football celebrates the 25th anniversary of their classic 1999 self-titled debut with a fully remastered edition and a track-by-track collection of covers. Both LPs Scheduled for release on October 18th Polyvinyl. American Football (Cover) Featuring a cover by Iron and Wine “It was never my intention.”“, as well as “For Sure” by Ethel Kane, “Stay Home” by Manchester Orchestra, Blondshell’s cover of “The Summer Ends,” and John McEntire’s rendition of “The One With the Wurlitzer.” Check out the video for Iron & Wine’s cover below.

“My neighbor Brad Cook and I have long talked about working together on something,” Iron & Wine’s Sam Beam said in a statement. “When he asked me about this project, I thought it seemed like the perfect opportunity, especially since I knew the songs mean so much to American football fans. I’m honored to be a part of this project and hope to do it justice.”

Steve Ramos of American Football added, “When the first Iron & Wine record came out, it was like a cross between Townes Van Zandt and Elliott Smith. It was as if Nick Drake had grown up with us listening to Fugazi and then started making bedroom art folk. In other words, it’s exactly what we would have made if we’d put out our first record at 28 instead of 22. Sam Beam is an incredible songwriter and interpreter, and we couldn’t be more honored that he took the time to interpret our songs.”
