12. The Hunger Games: Sunrise to Reap
and Or because audiences can’t enjoy The Hunger Games without Jennifer Lawrence’s heroic archer Katniss Everdeen, 2023’s The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes will be followed by another prequel based on one of Suzanne Collins’ novels. The film is set 24 years before the original Hunger Games movie, so it features younger versions of several of the main characters from Katniss’ story. It should be fun to see how well the new actors match up with the old ones. Ralph Fiennes plays President Snow, played by Donald Sutherland as an old man. Jesse Plemons plays the role of Philip Seymour Hoffman, Kieran Culkin plays the role of Stanley Tucci, Elle Fanning plays the role of Elizabeth Banks, and Joseph Zada plays the 20-something protagonist who becomes a middle-aged alcoholic played by Woody Harrelson. Directed by Francis Lawrence, who also made all the other Hunger Games films and last year’s Stephen King adaptation The Long Walk, it’s another dystopian thriller about young people being murdered for television entertainment. 13. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Wizard’s Nephew
In the early 2000s, when studios wanted their own children’s fantasy adventure series to rival Harry Potter, there were three films based on C.S. Lewis’ novel The Chronicles of Narnia, but now, after a 16-year hiatus, a fourth will be released. Confusingly, this work is actually based on Lewis’s sixth novel in The Chronicles of Narnia, which is the first according to the chronology of the story’s events. In other words, The Sorcerer’s Nephew is a prequel set 40 years earlier on Earth and 1,000 years earlier in Narnia than The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Emma Mackie plays the evil White Witch Jadis alongside Carey Mulligan and Daniel Craig, but the most exciting addition is writer/director Greta Gerwig. This is the first movie she’s directed since Barbie dolls took over the world in 2023, so she’ll have the freedom and budget to do whatever she wants. Regardless, as Wicked taught us, there’s definitely an audience for prequels featuring famous fictional witches. (Note)

It’s safe to assume that Homer’s ancient Greek poetry isn’t the reason this movie is so hotly anticipated that tickets go on sale a year in advance. The highlight here is that as a sequel to the Oscar-winning Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan adapted the classic with a grand imagination and an all-star cast. Matt Damon plays Odysseus, a warrior king on a dangerous and surreal journey home from the Trojan War. Anne Hathaway plays his patient wife Penelope, and Tom Holland plays their son Telemachus. Robert Pattinson plays Penelope’s suitor Antinous, while Zendaya plays the goddess Athena. The cast also includes Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, and Jon Bernthal. One of director Nolan’s talents is blending big-scale action with unique, vivid characters, and this film promises to deliver both dynamic fight scenes and personal drama. nolan said empire Magazine about Odysseus, “His genius personality, cleverness, and ingenuity were a big part of what interested me,” and previewed some scenes. revealed There are definitely Trojan horses. 16. Avengers: Doomsday
Avengers: Endgame is one of the highest-grossing films of all time, but no other Marvel superhero movie has had as much of an impact since its release in 2019. What is the studio’s solution?
