9. Gray House

Set during the Civil War, this historical drama is inspired by the true stories of four very different Southern women: a socialite and her mother, a courtesan, and a former slave. They become spies for the Union Army, secretly sending information from within the Confederate Army. Mary Louise Parker plays Eliza Van Lew, but the story focuses on Eliza’s daughter Elizabeth (Daisy Head) and former slave Mary Jane Richards (Amethyst Davis). This ambitious series features combat scenes in addition to espionage, and is entirely directed by Roland Joffé (The Killing Fields). The show, executive produced by Kevin Costner and Morgan Freeman, is also one of many recent period dramas to feature contemporary music, with country singers such as Willie Nelson and Shania Twain contributing to the soundtrack.

“The Gray House” will premiere worldwide on Prime Video on February 26th.
