BrookrushtonFrom Superman I know what you did last summer. These are the movies you should watch at the cinema this month.
A24Eddington
Ali Astor is best known as the horror oter who chilled the audience with hereditary and midsomer. The title is the name of a small desert town in New Mexico, with sheriff Joaquin Phoenix in Logger Heads alongside business-oriented mayor Pedro Pascal. Their feud has something to do with the sheriff’s wife Emma Stone, but it’s out of control when the town was hit by the COVID-19 pandemic and protests of black lives in 2020. “It turns everyday American madness into one of the most artistically complete and obsessive Doom Scrolls,” Aster said. Elle says Tomris is Lafrey. “It’s insightful, shining and odd, often very entertaining… both definitive communal films and modern Western West, culminating in a brilliantly directed, gradually darkening finale.”
Released in the US on July 18th and in Australia on July 24th
Chiabella James/ PrimeHead of State
What about our president being an action hero at this point? In April, Viola Davis was a gun and ass kicking Potus in the G20. Currently, the head of state has John Cena as the former Hollywood actor president, and Idris Elba as the prime minister of the UK. When their planes shoot down hostile territory, they must fight a way back to civilization. The action comedy directed by Ilya Neischler probably won’t win many Oscars, but Niischler’s final film, “No one had the best fighting scenes for years,” proved that Cena knows how to send his tough guy images in Suicide Squad. “This was mostly just me being beaten. That’s my strength.” I said it on extratv. “We’re going to show you a bit about who these people are, and once it jumps, you’re on the edge of your seat the whole time. Once it’s gone, it won’t stop.”
Released internationally on Prime Video on July 2nd
Kismet movietogether
Real-life couples Alison Brie and Dave Franco star in this nasty horror drama as another couple, Millie and Tim. They moved from Melbourne to rural Australia, where Millie begins her education job. After Tim drinks stagnant water in the mystical cave, he cannot stand to leave Millie, but when he touches her, their bodies begin to fuse together. Written and directed by Michael Shanks, there is currently a 100% fresh rating on the Rotten Tomatoes Reviews Round-Up Site, but whether it will serve as a dating movie is open to debate. “This fun hinge spin in this pleasant horror joint… the audience needs to scream and attack equally.” says Kate Erbland of Indiewire. “It’s hard to be really connected to this crowd-pleasing (and boring) midnight treat, not pulling in by spectacles, sticking to the story.”
Released in the US, Canada and the UK on July 30th, and released in Australia on July 31st.
Mongrel Media40 acres
His debut film from writer director RT Thorn is a dystopian survival thriller set in Canada. Animals are being wiped out by the pandemic and food is rare, so if you’re lucky enough to get your own farm, you’ll do whatever it takes to build a high fence around it and keep a gang of hungry strangers outside. The farmers of this particular property are people of color. Daniel Deadwiller plays the patriarch of a military background, and her husband is played by First Nations actor Michael Greyes. Michael Greyes gives another complexity of 40 acres. The film is full of bloody action, Chasing Hutchinson on a rapwith some deep issues in mind. “Is there room for community and care when people who have already been painful beings are in each other’s throats? The question remains the main point of tension on a subject with no easy answer, as we follow families who are struggling to move forward together.”
Released in the US on July 2nd
Jessica MiglioSuperman
Superman is the first film in the new DC Universe, revamped by James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy, Suicide Squad). It looks more hilarious than Zack Snyder’s Moody Man of Steel (2013). The trailer is not just Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) and Lex Luther (Nicholas Hault), but also horny-like like Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, Superman’s robot assist and Kleiptog. But what can we expect from Superman himself, as David Corenswet plays? “We can expect Superman, which is about the compassion of the human spirit.” Gunn said in the screen briefs. “Yes, he’s an alien from another very powerful planet, but he’s deep, deeply human. This is about a complicated character, and I think that’s what makes the audience totally surprised.”

Paramount PhotosSmurf
A humanoid tribe who loves vibrant, vibrantly coloured music, living in forest villages? Over the past decade, the most popular character that met that description was the troll rather than the Smurf. The troll was a 2016 disco-powered smash. Still, perhaps the latest Smurf films with animated Smurfs zapped into live action Paris will bring them back to the top. The biggest selling point is Rihanna. Rihanna gives Smurfett aloud and offers new songs (the working title was Smurf Musical). However, Peyo’s original Belgian comic strip was important to director Chris Miller (the Boots Pass). “The DNA of Peyo’s original drawings guides many creative choices in the film.” Miller said Last year’s Annecy Animation Festival. “Every action line and thought bubble from the comics appear in the film, and the comics have inspired many squash and stretches to make the animation style fun and buoyant.”

BrookrushtonI know what you did last summer
In the original, you know what you did last summer when it came out in 1997. A group of teenagers drive someone in their car, fleeing the scene of a crime, and are cornered by a serial killer known as a fisherman. The film sparked the Teen Slasher Films craze in the 1990s, along with Scream (who had the same screenwriter, Kevin Williamson). And now, with Scream Franchise back, it may have been inevitable that you know what you did last summer. This legacy sequel features a new set of teenagers and another car accident, but it is set in the same universe as the first film, with Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinz Jr. appearing as the first murder case, Julie and Ray as two survivors. “I wanted to dig this out of the way. If this happened to you, how would it shape you and you would be the one who followed it?” said writer-director Jennifer Katin Robinson. Entertainment Weekly. “So I really want to look at both Ray and Julie and say, ‘Well, how did this shape both of them, and where are they today?”

DisneyFantastic Four: The First Step
In the year, it appears someone is about to launch a big screen franchise based on Marvel Comics’ first superhero team, the Fantastic Four. There was a 2005 film, and it was a success worthy of a sequel, and there was Josh Trunk’s Dark Reboot in 2015, but it wasn’t. And now there’s yet another version in 2025, but it looks much more fantastical than the other versions. The team is currently played by Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby (co-creator of Fantastic Four and co-creator of legendary artist Jack Kirby), Joseph Quinn and Evon Moss Baklach. The twist is not that the film is not set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but a parallel reality that is a utopia of the 1960s of bright, shiny universe age. “This is about the spirit of space racing.” Director Matt Shakman said in Empire Magazine. “It’s about JFK and optimism. I imagine these four going into space instead of Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin. The idea is that they are America’s most famous people.

NetflixTropical Apocalypse
The state of democracy in Brazil has fired filmmakers at this time. See I’m still here, who won last year’s Oscars. In the field of documentary, Petra Costa’s personal view of the political division of her country, the edge of democracy, was nominated for an Oscar in 2020. And now she’s back with a tropical apocalypse examining the impact of evangelical Christian leaders on voters. Costa explores the history of evangelism and tries to understand how its apocalyptic vision captured the hearts and minds of so many Brazilians.” says Hollywood Reporter Jordan Minzer. “In doing so, she sheds light on the phenomenon that exists not only in Brazil and the United States, but also in countries around the world where “faith in progress and democracy” is now being tested more than ever before. ”

Universal StudiosJurassic World Revival
Regeneration of Jurassic World is a reset of the Jurassic world. The final film in the Dino series, the 2022 Jurassic World Dominion, was a glove trotting action caper with elements of science fiction and spice thriller, but the new ones go back to basics. We have registered the first two Steven Spielberg Jurastic Park movies that scripted the first two Steven Spielberg-driven Jurassic Park movies. (friends of Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey, Rupert) are trapped on a tropical island along with hungry prehistoric animals. Director Gareth Edwards showed his skills with the CGI giants in Godzilla (2014) and his low-budget debut, Monster (2010), but in this case he is pleased to give Spielberg a loving respect. Jurassic World plays “I really feel like I’m welcoming people to celebrate the original film,” Bailey I said it on Empire Magazine. “I’m not scared of reinjecting thrills and fear, but it’s with that wonder and adoration.”
It was released internationally in cinemas from July 2nd.
