It’s November and the end of the year is almost here. Autumn and winter are a time when we turn inward, the days get shorter, and we prepare our bodies for colder weather.
It’s a time to reflect on your life and what you’ve accomplished over the past year. What have you learned about yourself? Now is a time to reflect and turn inward to determine new goals and intentions for the year ahead.

Winter tips for healthy eating and boosting your metabolism. Winter is associated with salty taste, but craving salt means that the water balance in your body is disrupted. The kidneys control the storage of life force in the bones and bone marrow.
Winter is the element of water. Water is an essential element for the body. Winter is the time for the kidneys and bladder. Winter is a deep energy, going inward. Winter is when yin energy is strongest, so it’s the time to rebuild and nourish your kidneys and bladder with warm water and squeezed lemon juice.
Do not increase your food intake too much. Reduce starchy foods such as potatoes. Instead, eat sweet potatoes to boost your body’s warming protein. Vegetable soups contain garlic and ginger, which are nutritious and both add spice to your life.
Cooked whole grains are great for winter meals. Millet and buckwheat are good for warming your body. Brown rice, oats, and barley are also good. Black beans, lentils, and sunflower seeds are also good.
Nuts are a great snack or lunch salad during the winter months. Remember, it’s not cold after 4 p.m. For carnivores, deep-sea fish such as halibut and swordfish are recommended. Once in a while, it’s nice to have organic chicken or grass-fed beef, which are kind to your body.

A winter herb is marshmallow root (not candy), which acts on inflammation of the small intestine and the mucous membranes, especially the bladder, lungs and lower bowl. Chamomile also has a beneficial effect on the stomach and intestines, and has a calming effect on the nerves.
Good spices are cayenne pepper and ginger root. Boil ginger root in water for 15-20 minutes and drink it with lukewarm water.
Winter is a good time to practice yoga in a warm room, or practice tai chi or qi gong to circulate the energy meridians in your body. Wrap your neck on very cold days.
