The Spiritual Power of a Conscious Morning by Glenn Harrold
For years, I didn’t think much about my mornings. Within seconds of waking up, my heart was already racing. what needs to be done. Someone you need to talk to. What could go wrong? I was nervous even before my feet hit the floor.
It took me a long time to realize that the first few minutes set the emotional tone for the rest of the day. Mornings are boundaries, and most people cross them without realizing it.
When I started delving deeper into meditation, first for myself and then to guide others, I noticed something simple. Those who felt more calm and centered did not necessarily have an easier life. They were just beginning a different life.
It’s not dramatically different. Just consciously. Like hitting a tuning fork, the first thought is important and sends a vibration.
Instead of immediately reaching for your phone or remembering yesterday’s worries, stop and notice your breathing. Be aware of the fact that you are awake.
I often recommend having something meaningful next to your bed. Not as a decoration, but as a memorial. Something to gently interrupt the autopilot – perhaps a photo of a happy memory.
Optimism is a practice, not acting as if everything is perfect. When you expect something good, you begin to notice it. You might notice the warmth of your shower, or how quiet your house is before you wake up.
The power of gratitude increases in the morning. If possible, say something out loud. It changes your physiology, softens your body and stabilizes your mind. Above all, just a few words of heartfelt gratitude can change your mood.
Then there’s the main body.
Observe the animal when it wakes up. It instinctively stretches. You move before you think. We’ve lost some of that natural rhythm. Even a few slow stretches next to your bed can make a difference. You don’t have to do a complete routine. It is enough to gently wake up the muscles and breathe.
Then enjoy the silence for a few minutes. Close your eyes and breathe slowly and deeply. Calm your nervous system before the world starts demanding things from you.
You may be able to imagine your day going smoothly. Not the details, just the stability. A quiet confidence that we can handle whatever comes our way.
Once you feel calm, repeat some simple affirmations.
I feel safe and protected.
I’m caring and loving.
I am so grateful for this new day.
I love and respect myself.
I feel a deep sense of peace now.
Speak slowly and make sure you understand.
If you can stick to even 5 minutes at the beginning of your day, you can start somewhere else. You bring a different energy to conversations, decisions, and challenges.
Over time, those small changes add up. Morning is more than just the beginning of your schedule. It is the beginning of your internal atmosphere for the day.
Please choose carefully.
