Candlemas!
Candlemas is a religious holiday whose origins date back to the 4th century.th century. celebrated on February 2ndn.d.40 days after Christmas.
Candlemas is said to be a festival of remembrance in which candles are lit to honor and remember Jesus when he was formally introduced to the Jerusalem Temple. (Christmas, 40 days after birth, December 25th)th).
In some Catholic churches, it is said to celebrate the rite of purification of the Virgin Mary, and has even more meaning, sometimes taking place 40 days after the birth of Christ.
In the early days, Candlemas was celebrated with a grand feast, the Feast of Candlemas.
In more modern times, Candlemas has become a time when churches bless all the candles for the coming year.
Here’s what sparked interest for me.
Celebrate by candlelight!
Candles are highly symbolic in themselves.
While a lit candle has its own spiritual energy and presence, a lit candle also has the power to help you summon a greater spiritual presence in your life.
So, we arranged Candlemas in a modern style…
You may wish to light a candle to invoke your own divine presence and welcome higher divine beings and spirits into your life.
simple candle meditation
A timeless, simple, yet powerful candle meditation involves lighting a candle.
Next, place the candle in front of you and stare into the candle flame.
As you gaze into the flame…consider the nature of Spirit that exists within the flame and is inherently present within all things.
The same Spirit Presence that you are attuned to in the candle flame is present within you, and you consciously now allow it to surface more and more in your life. You can.
Powerful cleansing time
The connection of Candlemas to the time when the Virgin Mary underwent the ritual of purification is also highly symbolic.
My article about Imbolc, a pagan fire festival that marks the hidden entrance to spring on February 1stcent…
I am speaking about the powerful cleansing energies that are available at this time of year.
It’s a good time to cleanse both your thinking and emotional levels…
But it’s also the perfect time to do a little spring cleaning of the spaces around you.
Connection with Groundhog Day
Finally…
Candlemas is related to the modern observation of Groundhog Day, which also takes place on February 2nd.n.d.. Related to this is that farmers observed the weather at Candlemas and used it as a reference point for determining what the weather would be like for the rest of the year.
If the sun was bright overhead…that meant clearer, colder weather was coming. But if it’s cloudy, it means warm weather is coming.
There is an old English song that I used as a reference. catholic answer It looks like this:
“If Candlemas is bright and sunny, winter, fly away again. / If Candlemas brings clouds and rain, go away, winter, and never come again.”
