So today is my birthday and I woke up thinking about something.

What if our culture celebrated birthdays backwards?
Because we think…
Today is my birthday!
So, instead of expecting a birthday gift…or a happy birthday text, phone call, Facebook message…or, since it’s my birthday, why don’t you donate to a cause or buy my book? Instead of jumping on board with the new trend of asking for reviews, how about…
What if I give you something instead?
And what if we all started thinking of our birthdays not as a day to get something, but as a day to really focus on doing good in the world…
What if birthdays were seen culturally as an opportunity for us as individuals to give something, perform random acts of kindness, and let love and kindness shine into the world…
So instead of expecting to get something for your birthday…or plan your special day and treat yourself…
We planned some way to serve the world, give back, and let love and kindness shine.
What if the purpose of your birthday was to be actively grateful, spread kindness, and serve those around you?
I honestly think that if this trend really caught on, it would help make the world a better place…
It is the start of our personal new year (birthday) from service of “me, me, me” to self-energy, “how can I serve”, “who am I grateful for”, This is because we shift to “what value is it for me?” To contribute to the people around me…”
This energy of serving the world and shining your light leads to true happiness, joy, and fulfillment.
It’s much more important than getting a fancy birthday dinner or a fancy birthday gift.
And while there’s nothing wrong with receiving… it’s about treating yourself… and celebrating the start of a new year in your life.
I think a really cool way to celebrate a birthday is by giving a gift.
So this morning I decided on my birthday…

I’m so grateful to be alive and to be able to reach the age of 33…
