Tea ceremony and the power of existence
When I was a child, my grandmother would treat me and my sisters to tea parties. We dressed up, pulled out our fancy teacups, set the table with treats, and actively transformed an ordinary afternoon into something truly special and magical.
Today, a fond memory of a special afternoon spent with my grandmother and sisters inspired me to create a process that transforms a simple cup of tea into a beautiful, immersive spiritual practice… so to speak. , a spiritual tea party!
In my childhood, tea parties always felt like special occasions, but many of us drink tea every day, or at least very regularly during the winter months.
With just a little bit of awareness, a little bit of presence, and just slowing down long enough to really enjoy it, a cup of tea can have a lasting impact on your day and ultimately your spiritual path. can be given.
power of existence
Presence is essential to spiritual understanding. As spiritual beings in human form, one of our greatest opportunities is to learn to incorporate a direct connection with God into our daily lives.
Bringing your attention back to the present moment is one of the simplest and most powerful ways to raise your vibration, calm your chaotic emotions, and increase your direct connection to the divine. Presence is also one of the easiest spiritual practices to incorporate into your life, and can be achieved in many ways, including becoming fully present while drinking a cup of tea through this simple tea ceremony practice .
“To enjoy tea, you must be fully awake in the present. Only by being aware of the present can your hand feel the soothing warmth of the cup. You can taste the sweetness and savor the deliciousness. If you’re ruminating about the past or worrying about the future, you’ll completely miss the experience of enjoying a cup of tea. ” – Thich Nhat Hanh

simple tea party
The tea ceremony begins by setting an intention that recognizes a cup of tea and the time spent drinking it as a special time for oneself.
Read the Thich Nhat Hanh quotes above for inspiration and to set your mood. 🙂
As you brew your tea and take your time to steep it, consciously bring your attention to the present moment.
Check in using all five senses. Notice what you are observing within and all around you and let it go.
This is also a great time to check in on your feelings, emotions, and inner state. How are you feeling today? What is happening in your world? Are you distracted by the day’s events? Are you excited or anxious about something in the future? Are you feeling grounded and centered right now?
Look at your current state and then make a conscious effort to let go of what has happened up to this point. Let go of doubts and worries about what the future holds, let go of what happened in the past, and just be in the present moment…
Be fully present in the here and now while making the tea.
Feel the energy in the room around you. Feel the feel of the floor beneath your feet, the weight of your clothes, and the temperature of your skin. Attune to the energy in your feet…to the energy in your hands…and now feel your heart center…
Consciously let the light of your heart shine brightly within you as you bring all of your awareness into this moment…
Now, here.
Stay in the present moment while your tea brews, and when it’s ready, hold the mug close to your nose and inhale the warmth and blissful scent.
Offer scent as a gift to God. Dedicate this mug of tea, and this present moment, to the awakening of all beings, peace on earth, awakening, or someone/something that moves you.
Next, carefully rotate the mug in all four cardinal directions. Allow this symbolism to bring about a feeling of openness within you. You may now choose to focus on opening your heart, raising your vibration, or opening your heart to receive messages from your angels as you take your first sip.
Be fully present in the moment as you take your first sip of tea.
Feel the warmth, taste the taste, feel the energy, smell the aroma, and align your gratitude with this small moment of joy that a cup of tea brings.
Stay in the present moment. Feel the warmth of the mug in your hands…
Enjoy the flavor, warmth and slowness of every bite.
And with every sip, say a simple “thank you.”
When you find yourself mentally moving on to the next thing you need to do today, or drawn into something that happened in the past, always remember to bring yourself back to the present.
Be fully present in this moment, enjoy the magic and small miracles of this moment with a nice cup of tea, and fully experience it.
Add tea ceremony to other customs
This simple tea ceremony practice is a wonderful addition to other spiritual practices. Whether you practice yoga, meditation, Qigong, crystal work, or the following angel meditation, try drinking a cup of tea before you start or finish.
When you are fully present while drinking tea, it becomes a powerful extension of other spiritual practices. Whether you drink tea for its effects on your body, mind, or spirit, you can’t go wrong with slowing down and spending a few minutes feeling its presence.

What is the best tea for a tea ceremony?
Really, no matter which tea you choose, it’s perfect for a tea ceremony. Try something new or stick with your favorites. If you want some suggestions, here are some of my favorites. Each works to support the mind, body, and spirit.
Matcha
In the traditional Japanese tea ceremony or Zen tea ceremony, matcha is used in ceremonies symbolizing peace, harmony, and happiness.
Matcha is a premium green tea powder that can contain up to 15 times more nutrients than loose-leaf green tea. It does contain some caffeine, so if you’re sensitive to caffeine or just want to enjoy an evening tea ceremony, here are some herbal teas that are perfect for a spiritual tea ceremony.
ginger tea
Ginger warms the body, dilates blood vessels, increases circulation, and supports the immune system. The spicy energy of ginger tea pairs beautifully with the energies of love, money, success, and power.
chamomile tea
Most commonly used to promote good sleep, chamomile contains several amino acids that have a relaxing effect on the body. Energetic Chamomile is relaxing and cleansing.
Holy basil or tulsi tea
Holy basil is a great supplement for overall health and wellness. It is an adaptogen and brings balance and calm. Tulsi tea nourishes and purifies energy, reduces stress, and promotes peace. Tulsi tea balances energy and cleanses the mind, body, and spirit. This is one of my favorite teas…and not just because it is believed to be sacred in ancient Hindu texts.
mint tea
Mint contains a wide variety of herbs, all of which are known for their uplifting effects. It is also an anti-inflammatory and is often used for colds, headaches, and nausea. Mint is purifying and helps break down illusions and attract positive energy into your life.
rooibos tea
Rooibos is a delicious red tea, but I always seem to mispronounce it. 😉 Rich in vitamin C, it is said to help fight disease and signs of aging. It does not contain natural caffeine but is naturally energizing and rejuvenating.
enjoy!
