Examining Turkish symbolism and spiritual meaning
I live on a large plot of land in the countryside surrounded by forests. And to our delight…a large family of Wild Turkeys regularly strolls down the street.
I don’t know if you really noticed…but turkeys are incredibly beautiful birds. Okay… it might look a little weird and dinosaur-like from certain vantage points… but if you look closely:
Their skin and feathers are slightly iridescent, and under certain lighting they appear to be entirely iridescent. The male birds are especially colorful and showy, looking like beautiful peacocks with their chests outstretched and their wings spread out.
It’s not just the males…female and baby turkeys are also very iridescent and beautiful…
Turkeys are truly majestic birds.
It was so much fun watching them zigzag around the garden. Mother turkeys are clearly teaching their young about how to eat and grow in this world…and the males gather together to cheekily flaunt their stuff and (I’m imagining) They are beautiful.
Anyway…
Spending time with the turkeys this summer really helped me tune into their energy and understand their unique psychiatry and all they have to offer.
So just the other day, when I was offered the option to “reserve my turkey” at Natural Grocers… I was truly struck by how culturally disconnected we are from the sacred wisdom of turkey. Ta. And instead of honoring these clever birds and learning from them, we literally plan a holiday centered around massacring and eating them.
Because of this, and because I keep seeing so many turkeys these days, I wanted to share a little bit about what I’ve learned about their magic, wisdom, and guidance here.
sacred nature of Türkiye
If you look closely at turkeys…you’ll see that they are truly magical birds. It’s no surprise, then, that ancient Mexican cultures such as the Aztecs, Mayans, and Toltecs held the turkey sacred, celebrating its stunning beauty, cheeky confidence, and price.
Some Native American tribes also praised Turkey as a spirit of abundance, sacrifice, and fertility.
So what is the spiritual meaning of Türkiye?
Turkish totem meaning
A spiritual animal and ally, the turkey reminds us of the power of respecting nature and having a deep communion and connection with the Earth.
Turkey reminds us to respect ourselves, to respect the earth, and to care for and nourish both. In doing so, the result is a harmonization of many blessings: abundance, community, authentic connection, harmony, and fulfillment.
Cultivating a harmonious relationship with the earth is one of the key teachings of Turkish wisdom…
And what we definitely need in today’s world.
Isn’t it ironic that Turkey is trying to teach us how to have a harmonious relationship with the Earth, and culturally we literally “eat the messenger”?
A harmonious relationship with Mother Earth
If you can cultivate a relationship of harmony, gratitude and love with the Earth…this is a solid foundation for your own vital well-being, both on a mental, emotional, physical and spiritual level. It becomes.
The turkey as a totem is a wise and intelligent guide who can help you cultivate a greater sense of abundance and fulfillment by harmonizing your relationship with nature and all life.
Turkish ones are also strong symbols of the importance of community, sharing, and authentic connection.
What does it mean when Turkey crosses in front of you?
If you’ve seen a wild turkey, or it appeared to you in a dream or meditation, and a turkey crossed your path… or if you’ve come across a picture of a turkey somewhere, even online…
You may ask yourself how are you honoring and nurturing yourself and what are you doing to connect with and care for the Earth?
Are you focused on all that you have to be grateful for, and are you openly accepting and letting the blessings in your life overflow?
Turkey also reminds us to be grateful and aware of life’s many blessings. A call to gratitude…and a reminder to shine your own unique light and express your unique soul qualities and inner radiance. Just as a beautiful male turkey struts around and shows off his beautiful plumage for all to see, it’s time for you to reveal more of your brilliance and beauty to the world.
meaning of turkey feathers
Turkey feathers are a beautiful symbol of abundance, a sign of the power of co-creation with Mother Earth, and a reminder that this is a time of abundance for creation.
And like all feathers, it reminds us of the presence of Spirit.
