Reading fiction was one of my very first loves growing up. I remember cozying up with a book and a blanket and reading for long hours, until I could barely keep my eyes open. I loved being completely immersed in a story and delighted by how diving into a book I could magically transport into an entirely different world. I loved it. I still do.
Today I read all types of books, and while I love learning and reading non-fiction, fiction still sparks a special joy in my heart. Especially fiction that is both an incredible story, and a profound spiritual teacher as well.
Ah yes, the world of Spiritual Fiction.
I’ll share some of my favorites with you here… With one caveat, if you have a book you love in this genre that I dont mention, comment below and share!
Now, without further ado, and in no particular order other than the order I initially jotted these down:

11 Spiritual Fiction Books I Love
Siddhartha by Herman Hesse
Siddhartha is an incredible tale about a man’s journey as he seeks to find the meaning of life and the elusive state of enlightenment. It’s also so much more than that…
All at once it’s a fascinating, deep, simple, and profound read. A book you could re-read often and still find deeper layers of personal meaning and shifts in awareness.
Set in ancient India at the time of Gotama Buddha, this is a story of reflection about the spiritual path and journey to enlightenment and its many trials, ups downs, twists and turns.
An enjoyable read and absolute gem in terms of the wisdom, and light of understanding it shines on the path of spirituality and self discovery.
The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho
The Alchemist is a book that’s often recommended for spiritual seekers, and this is a recommendation I can abound with!
The Alchemist tells the tale of an Andalusian shepherd boy named Santiago who embarks on an epic journey to find hidden treasure.
There is deep and yet simple wisdom woven through the tale of his journey as he learns the deep importance of listening to his heart and inner guidance…
And ultimately finding the value and importance of the treasure within.
Atlantean Secrets by Samuel Sagan
Atlantean Secrets is an epic 4-book series by Samuel Sagan.
I love it so much! This is probably my favorite series ever. Spiritual fiction of the highest caliber.
Not only does Atlantean Secrets tell the incredible story of Szar, a boy undergoing an awakening journey in the times of Atlantis, but it contains deep wisdom about energy, consciousness, spiritual practices, and the structure and nature of consciousness in a fun and engaging story.
The other thing about this book is that there is a real spiritual transmission, warmth and light woven through it. If you’re at all sensitive to subtle energy, you’ll find this book a blessing and a true delight to read.
Atlantean Secrets brings you along for Szars journey through awakening, and if you are ready, open and willing, the story will trigger awakening within you as well.
The Atlantean Secrets series includes: Sleeper Awaken, Forever Love White Eagle, The Gods Are Wise, and The Return of the Flying Dragon.
Then… There’s a 5th book called Bleeding Sun set in the future that continues the journey of the characters of Atlantean Secrets as they reincarnate into future Apocalyptic times.
Highly recommend this entire series!
The Celestine Prophecy by James Redfield
The Celestine Prophecy is an adventurous tale about a man’s journey to Peru in search of spiritual wisdom and secrets contained in a forbidden ancient manuscript.
One of the incredible things about this book is that as you read about the journey of awakening the main character undergoes throughout his journey, you will quickly realize the correlations of the wisdom and awakening themes in your own life.
Woven into the story are deep spiritual insights into the nature of reality, awakening and learning how to flow with the magical synchronicity of life.
One of the main lessons in the book is about the power of synchronicity, and how in each of our lives the mysterious force of coincidence guides us into the unfoldment of our true destiny.
I first read this book over a decade ago and found it incredibly inspiring and illuminating for me on my spiritual path. Then a couple months ago, I re-listened to The Celestine Prophecy on an audio book and found a whole new level of inspiration and personal revelation through synchronicity as I listened.
One Hundred Ways to Sunday by Robin Rice
One Hundred Ways to Sunday is a truly spellbinding tale of a woman’s journey from the ordinary into the mystic.
When a chance encounter introduces her to a Navajo medicine man, she is drawn into a world beyond anything she could have imagined. Through shamanic journeys across time, she begins to unravel her past lives and discover her true spiritual path.

One Hundred Ways to Sunday is such a magical depiction of the spiritual awakening and self-discovery journey. It reminds us that we each have a unique gift to offer the world if we can only find the courage to walk our own path.
This book will open your heart and stir your spirit.
The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss
The Name of the Wind is a rich and vivid fantasy that is incredibly well written and wonderful to read.
This epic tale follows a young boy, Kvothe, through his life of tragedy, poverty and hardship, into magical school, love, success, failure and beyond.
While this is not technically “Spiritual Fiction”, there are so many deep spiritual insights woven in. From Kvothe’s lessons at Magical School, to his struggles with poverty and seeking revenge, Rothfuss richly explores the perversions as well as the beauty of human nature and how this affects Kvothe. The Name of the Wind is fantasy at its finest, with an inspiring yet flawed hero facing extraordinary challenges on his epic quest.
This book is violent, and it’s definitely heartbreaking at times. It also doesn’t have the warmth or spiritual transmission that I so love in Spiritual Fiction… But I loved reading it, and gained many personal insights and perspective shifts while reading it as well.
The Mists of Avalon – Marion Zimmer Bradley
The Mists of Avalon is a delightful Arthurian legend retold through the eyes of the women behind King Arthur’s throne.
The story follows the powerful priestess Morgaine and her mystical connection to the isle of Avalon, weaving an enchanting tale of magic, betrayal, and faith during a time of profound transformation.
As Christianity threatens the ancient pagan ways, the women of Avalon attempt to preserve their ancient traditions and guard the secrets of the Goddess. We experience the legendary events through Morgaine’s unique feminine perspective, bringing refreshing depth and nuance to the familiar narrative.
Marion Zimmer Bradley masterfully transports us to a mystical ancient world where we discover the untold story of Avalon’s priestesses. As their power wanes, we watch them make gut-wrenching sacrifices in order to protect what matters most.
The Mists of Avalon captures both the wonder and tragedy of Camelot as Morgaine bears witness to its glory and ruin. It’s an intimate look at the tensions between Christianity and paganism, men and women, fate and free will.
This mesmerizing journey through myth, magic and spirituality will draw you into Avalon’s mists and leave you forever changed. The Mists of Avalon is legendary historical fantasy at its best.
Ishmael- Daniel Quinn
Ishmael is an extraordinary tale of one man’s spiritual awakening and the wisdom imparted by a telepathic gorilla named Ishmael.
Seeking a new perspective, an unnamed narrator answers a cryptic ad in the paper requesting a student with “an earnest desire to save the world.” This leads him to Ishmael, whose shocking revelations completely challenge the narrator’s assumptions about humanity, civilization, and our perceived separation from nature.
Through compelling Socratic dialogue, Ishmael illuminates how modern civilization has become entrapped by cultural myths that justify the destruction of the natural world and keep us from living in harmony with the planet. He imparts an entirely new vision of human history and our fundamental role as species within the web of life.
As the narrator’s worldview transforms, he comes to understand humanity’s central problem: our perceived dominion over the earth rather than symbiosis with all living things. This manifests the dangerous cultural narrative driving us toward inevitable calamity.
Ishmael is a wise and deeply philosophical examination of humanity’s relationship with nature, civilization, and our own existence. It forces us to scrutinize beliefs we take for granted in order to find a new path forward. Poignant and transformative, Ishmael will completely reshape how you view human
