If you want to piss off a plastic surgeon, ask about “trends” in the field. The T word makes them nervous. I understand that. It is extremely unwise to let the whims of fashion dictate the age at which you should undergo a facelift or the size of breast implants to be implanted in your body. After all, if you’re not happy with your purchase, you can’t simply return it like you could with a pair of disappointing barrel jeans. Nevertheless, plastic surgery is not immune to fluctuations in culture, the virality of social media, or people’s preferences. Every year, surgeons see demand for certain treatments increase and interest in others waning.

When we asked these doctors how they expected the aesthetic landscape to change in the coming months, they were quick to confirm the staying power of certain procedures and phenomena. allure recently covered the body contouring boom with GLP-1, the enduring appeal of liposuction, the miniaturization of breast implants, the rise of tissue-sparing facelifts and breast augmentation, the increasing demand for ready-to-use fat (also known as allocrae), and even the anticipated growth of rib remodeling. That last one may seem like an overstatement (social media is frankly appalling), but I’m a board-certified plastic surgeon. charles galanisDoctors predict this controversial procedure will become popular by 2026. “It’s all part of the hip year,” he says.

Surgeons have also vaguely hinted at “regenerative” treatments, which have been getting a lot of buzz lately and could someday have an Ozempic-like impact on the field, but there is currently no evidence or FDA approval. (We’re talking about exosomes, salmon sperm, growth factors, and novel peptides.) Overall, he says, “these are much more experimental kinds of concepts that haven’t been implemented in clinical trials yet.” Daniel J. GouldMD, is a board-certified plastic surgeon and editor of the American Regenerative Medicine section. Cosmetic surgery journal. From a scientific perspective, 2026 will be the year that separates fact from fad in this field, but it could be a while before there is enough convincing data for these treatments to be widely adopted in practice, he added.

So what’s emerging now and what’s actually within reach? Going forward, plastic surgeons are predicting treatments that will disappear, gain traction, or even enjoy rebranding.

BBL became undetectable and is back with a new name.

The Brazilian butt lift is making a quiet comeback. How quiet is it? “We don’t even mention the word BBL,” says board-certified plastic surgeon Ryan NeinsteinMD of New York City office. Surgeons are ditching the acronym in favor of the procedure’s official name: fat grafting to the buttocks. “The word BBL still scares people,” Dr. Galanis explains. “So we have to be careful with that and explain that what we’re referring to is fat grafting.”
