Sadie Sink’s Max has been in a coma since season 4, leaving his red hair as long as weeds. However, in real life, Sink has her hair cropped short, making a wig a must for Max’s look. “I think this was my favorite hair of the season because she has beautiful hair. I always downplayed it to make her look more plain.” [Sadie] That’s really true. If you don’t tone it down, it looks like a L’Oréal commercial,” Hinzgaul says, but for this season, “we wanted it to be big, but we wanted it to be gritty enough to fit the show.”
The wig was placed behind Sink’s natural hairline to add length and texture. Even if her hair was long enough, teasing it every day would have been hell for Ms. Sink’s natural hair. Hinzgaul said that Max needed the most wigs (and therefore also had the biggest hair budget), given that Max’s hair was long and had to be braided in some scenes, and voluminous and curly in others.
To perfect the texture and color of the hair, Hinzgaul always asks the actors to cut hair from the bottom layer so that he can compare it to the hair samples for the wigs. “There are a lot of questions to ask. It has to be pretty thick,” she explains. “Then you can see how curly it is. [the actors’] Hair continues to change. they are young people. Due to the abundance of hormones, the pattern of curls constantly changes. It had to be a perfect color match. ”

One way to see what trends are taking hold in Hawkins, Indiana is to watch the evolution of Karen Wheeler. She gives us an idea of where this sleepy town stands culturally. When the first season was set in 1983, her hair was dark and still had ’70s layers. By season 5 in 1987, her hair is bleached and permed, ending in a short cut similar to her daughter Nancy’s. [played by Natalia Dyer]. Normally, Nancy copies her mother’s hair, but Hinzgaul said Karen, played by Kara Buono, took notes from her daughter in lieu of a time jump. Hinzgaul recalls. “I want this one photo [Dyer] I really liked this woman with blonde, short hair, and she was like, “That’s it.” This is where I plan on going. ” Five minutes later, Carla sent me the same photo and said, “This is where I’m going.” ”
