The Millennial side part emerged as a micro-trend in events, driven primarily by celebrities leaning into the Old Hollywood aesthetic. Many of these celebrities took their hairstyle inspiration from Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, and Grace Kelly from the late 1920s to the 1950s. “Tonight we aimed for a dreamy, soft aesthetic, inspired by the 1930s.” Renato Camporasaid the hairstylist who worked with Seyfried and Gomez at the Golden Globes in a press release. “Timeless, sophisticated, and undeniably golden.” There’s no escaping the typical seduction of Hollywood’s Golden Age. And why should you run away? Shiny structured waves and curls look elegant on everyone. To be honest, I can see why people over 30 go crazy for this type of hairstyle.

As award season continues, we can expect to see more Old Hollywood-inspired hairstyles, including plunging, swirls, waves, voluminous bobs, and curly pixies. So much so that it’s hard to tell whether you’re looking at a 2026 red carpet or a red carpet from the late 1920s.
Last night’s hairstyle might even signal a changing of the guard on the other side of the red carpet. Last year we saw a lot of sophisticated mid-parted styles, like blepharoplasty buns. It was all about looking snatched. But if the Golden Globes were any indicator, 2026 could be the year we let our hair down and toss it aside. This vibe is more like an “heir to the royal family” than an “Instagram villain,” and I’m all for it. But is that enough to give up the middle part that I love?
