What is toner?
The toner acts as a second cleansing step, removing any residual impurities and makeup that the cleanser may have missed. Additionally, toner helps restore the natural pH balance of the skin. This can be destroyed by cleansing.
Beyond cleansing, the toner prepares your skin for the rest of your skincare routine. Depending on the formulation, they can hydrate, soften, refine pores, and even treat certain skin concerns. Today, many toners contain active ingredients that target issues such as acne, dryness, and signs of aging. This means it can be an important inclusion in everyday life.
When should I use it?
Toner should be applied immediately after cleansing and before serum and moisturizer. This allows the toner to cleanse, effectively prepare the skin, and increase the absorption and effectiveness of the product afterwards. Most people use toner as part of their morning and evening skincare routines, but if you have sensitive skin, you may want to follow a simplified morning routine and include toner in your evening regime.

What materials should I look for?
The best material for toner depends on the type of skin and concerns you have. If you need something to soothe anything, look for hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and aloe vera to provide you with weightless moisture.
For exfoliation, try glycolic acid, salicylic acid, and lactic acid to help remove dead skin cells and pores. Mild or sensitive skin from Centella Asianica, Panthenol, and Camomile. Niacinamide and Vitamin C are good for brightening as they aid skin tone and enhance glow, but the antioxidants green tea, vitamin E and other antioxidants protect the skin from environmental damage.
