Rhode has launched a new lip pencil that calls the T Peptide Lip Shape – Contouring Lip Shaper ($24 each). I love the teaser and as a huge neutral fan, I was very excited to give these a try. I shared a running Tryon here and I was really surprised by the feedback! The feedback was very mixed and after nearly two weeks of trying these, I finally got a review.
Peptide lip shape This is a creamy twisted lip-up product that lies between the lip liner and the chubby stick. The formula is creamy and glides in a very smooth application, but with a semi-matte look finish.
The colours are very beautiful, but for me it’s only a small amount. Bright neutrals are very difficult to wear as the tone of my lips is dark and it looks grey or dry on my lips as many people are looking at my hands (i.e. they look white on my lips).
I carried the colour:
- bend Peach brown beige
- twist It’s a neutral light brown
- lift Light dusty pink
- Pushing Rose-colored beige tongue
- press Pink mauve tone
- Tilt It’s medium brown
- balance Coffee Caramel Brown
The biggest complaint I have seen is about enduring power and I disagree with the rants I encountered with comments and messages about these. These aren’t long lip pencils, and I think most of you who are disappointed would expect this to be something like a lip liner. The texture of the lip shape of the peptide is soft and the pigment/texture is not as thick as a pencil, making it a pencil-shaped lipstick. They are designed to be more contours than defining ones.
That said, the lasting power is not the best, but it won’t disappear anytime soon. When I put these on my lips they disappear fastest from the center of my lips, but they stay on the edge for a long time to me.
I love ideas and concepts, but I don’t like formulas. I don’t dislike them either. When topped with gloss, these are my favorites. If I had placed the order, I would have just picked up the charges and reports. You can get others to work with an extra gloss, but this will provide better maintenance than I would like.

In conclusion, what if you ask me if these are worth buying? I’d say they’re fine, but there’s a better formula out there and I prefer a regular lip pencil over a chubby stick. I think the Ilia Lip sketches with a similar concept (chubby stick) are excellent, but I wasn’t a huge fan of finishing. Pat McGrass Drama Tea Clip Pencils are far better for lasting power, but these pull the mat. In general, I think that shiny lips and something matte will make you feel better. Chanel had the most incredible lip crayons of the time, but they canceled it, but it was the best lip crayon I’ve tried.
