Avid Reader charm (Yeah, you do, right?) You know how much our editors love the Airwrap: This multitasking device has won multiple Best of Beauty awards for its ability to quickly and efficiently style hair without heat, leaving it with a glossy finish. Now, the brand has released a new, enhanced version, adding even more features to a tool that many thought already had everything they’d need.
Dyson is launching the Airwrap ID. At first glance, wow, it looks the same! (And of course it is, it’s an Airwrap after all). But the device can now be connected to an app for greater customization and to make styling even more efficient. “With Airwrap ID, you input information about your hair, skill level and styling goals in the MyDyson app and the machine will intelligently create the optimal curl sequence at the touch of a button,” says Robin Coutts, Senior Design Manager at Dyson.
The app lets you input your hair type, length, texture, style retention, skill level in using the device, and styling goals. Once you input this information, the app will determine how many seconds it will take to wrap your hair around the device, set it, and take a cool shot.
According to Coutts, and to me, who has never pressed a button in my life, many users forget to use the Airwrap’s Cold Shot feature. Devin TothHe, who is not affiliated with the brand, says this is key to maintaining your hairstyle: “Using the cold shot button will help your new style and texture last longer,” he says. “If you don’t do this, your style will fall apart faster.”
Toth says the new device’s connectivity could help novice hairstylists, those who want to get better at styling hair but don’t know where to start. “There’s a lot of information packed into a short questionnaire, and if the app really takes all that information into account, it can help you produce the results you’re looking for,” he says. Professionals with large clientele might find the feature less useful, he explains. “For me, it’s easier to think about what type of hair I have and what style I want,” he says. (He’s also been styling hair for over 20 years, so it makes sense he doesn’t need an app to guide him.)
