My standard and favorites are organized by category. I’ve narrowed each category down to my top three, but there are some sections that have more than three favorites.
best primer
These are my favorite primers. I try to find ones that multitask (i.e. have SPF, add hydration and shine).
best foundation formula
We have separated foundations and skin tint bases into several different categories based on their formulation.
Best skin tint/sheer
best medium coverage
best stick foundation
best concealer
best setting powder
I have divided my favorites into pressed and loose versions. I still prefer the pressed type because it’s more convenient, but I feel that the loose powder applied with a puff lasts better.
Loose powder favorites
- Laura Mercier Ultra Blur Talc Free Translucent Loose Setting Powder – This is the setting powder formula that I get the most compliments on. People always say my skin is perfect when I use Translucent or Rose. I don’t have much of it these days, but this powder really works to blur my skin beautifully. I use Makeup by Mario Powder Puff with this.
- YSL All Hours Hyper Blur Loose Setting Powder – I bought 02 Fair Medium in April and I love it. It doesn’t blur, settle, or darken. My skin tone is a little lighter now, so I think I’ll try the translucent formula.
press setting powder
Spray loving settings
I don’t use a lot of setting sprays these days, but the ones I’ve tried and liked are Charlotte Tilbury, Makeup by Mario, and NARS. All are lightweight and ultra-fine mist.
best bronzer
My bronzer favorites have remained the same over the years. I keep hoping to fall in love with another new formula, but I’m sticking with these when it comes to tone and formula.
contour
I often use bronzer as a contour instead of a traditional contour, but here are three that I really like because of their tones.
best cheek
I will also separate my recommendations into powders and creams/liquids. I usually prefer powder formats for their staying power.
Favorite powder formula
your favorite cream or liquid format
- Armani Luminous Silk Cheek Tint – This is still the best formula for a liquid blush. No problem, it will last a long time. Shine colors are nice, but matte formulas have better staying power. Review + Sample here.
- Hour Glass Unreal Liquid Blush Win the best tone and formula. These are on the moisturizing side, but since my skin has been very dry this year, I’ve been loving these. Review + Sample here.
- road pocket blush – I still really love it. Freckles are the best everyday neutral. Sample + Review here.
I love highlighter
eyeshadow palette
best cream eyeshadow
go-to eyebrow products
My top 4 eyebrow products are:
Recently purchased: ABH Micro Stroke Detailing Brow Pen and love it. I’m still trying to master this application, but after trying several pens and not liking any of them (some of the colors looked too blue to me), a friend recommended ABH’s pens to me. She was 100% right about tone and formulation.
mascara favorites
This year I want to increase my mascara rotation. I’ve been sticking to three tried-and-true formulas that I still really like, but I think I need to switch things up a bit.
favorite lipstick
I have a lot of love for lipstick. It’s hard to narrow down my favorites, but if I had to pick my top 5, they would be:
best liquid lipstick
I’m not really into liquid lipsticks yet, as I prefer most liquid lipsticks to be matte and have some shine or shine, but I think Dior makes beautiful lipsticks!
Favorite colored lip balm/oil
This is also my favorite category. I will link the samples of each formula that I posted.
lip liner
best lip gloss formula
We’ve ranked the best gloss formulas by how often you wear them.
favorite makeup tools
I’m going to give you a quick rundown of some tools that I really like that are available at Sephora.
- hourglass travel brush set – I bought this during a Sephora sale a few years ago and it was 100% worth the splurge. This set includes full size options.
- ilia brush – I really wish they would make a full line of brushes because these are underrated. Everything I’ve tried has been 10/10 incredible.
- glossier lip pencil sharpener – Although not the most exciting tool, this is the best sharpener I’ve found. The container design is perfect for carrying in your makeup bag or taking with you on travels.
- Makeup by Mario Powder Puff – Not all puffs are the same. Many of my favorites seem to have changed textures, but the ones from Makeup By Mario are super soft and I love the size and shape.
- sephora collection brush cleaner – This is a great cleaner for removing creams (foundation, concealer, eyeshadow, blush, etc.) from your brushes. Since it’s expensive, I recommend using Dawn Powerwash Dish Spray on a brush pad first. For stubborn creams, use Sephora Brush Cleaner. This effectively removes cream products.
- sephora collection cotton – Another classic that I swear by. I love other brands of plush cotton, but this is the one I buy most often.
So there you have it, my extensive roundup of makeup favorites. We will be releasing summaries of other categories soon, so please look forward to it! use code all Here’s a breakdown of each tier to help you save money when shopping online.
