Celebrities have been associated with beauty for as long as their images have been in print. Original influencers, actors and musicians have lent their faces (and hair and bodies) to countless ad campaigns for beauty brands. And they still do, often acting as very highly paid “brand ambassadors.” But these days, it seems like just showing off your face (or hair or body) isn’t enough for some beauty-obsessed and ambitious celebrities. We live in the era of celebrity beauty brands.
Sure, we’ve seen countless celebrities launch not one, not two, but even 25 fragrances, but in the 21st century, and especially in the last few years, celebrity-founded makeup, skincare, and more , hair care companies are seeing an unprecedented rise. People who could not resist the temptation of beauty entrepreneurs. Some have already come and gone (remember Jessica Simpson’s Desert Beauty?), while others have stayed the course for years (your beauty lineup should include Jessica – May include something from Alba’s Honest Beauty).
And despite the genre’s fickle nature and fatigue that sometimes outweighs fan enthusiasm, celebrity beauty brands show no signs of slowing down. We know that at least six cosmetic products are confirmed to be in development, some by celebrities who have already had success in one cosmetic category and want to expand into another. There is also. (Fenty Hair, anyone?)
Here are the celebrities who currently own popular beauty brands. Each star product proves that the famous name on the label isn’t the obvious reason to try them. But there’s certainly serious research, science, and thoughtfulness that went into them.
